Fabulous antique (circa 1900) garnet topped doublet in 10k yellow gold. What is a garnet topped doublet? This is a stone comprised mostly of paste/glass with a thin slice of garnet making up the table and part of the crown. These stones were often intended to deceive buyers into thinking they were buying a true genuine stone (and they can still confuse less knowledgable gem lovers!), but these days we get to enjoy them as a tiny piece of gemological history as we still find examples like this set into antique pieces. The benefit of having a garnet top to a stone was improved luster as garnet takes a good polish and is much more reflective than glass - which is why you can make out the ring of garnet part way down the crown. The finish is just much better on the garnet - and has only been exacerbated with time and wear! Stone shows wear commensurate with age under magnification. Set into a lovely belcher ring setting.
size 6, I don’t recommended sizing as the back of the shank has thinned
Please understand that almost everything I sell is either preloved, vintage or antique - it is highly unlikely that it will be in new condition. Everything I sell is sold as is. Gold may be scuffed, stones may show wear and be slightly loose at times, patina will often be left in tact. I will endeavor to list any defects that are significant but understand I may miss something that you consider important. Please ask any and all questions prior to purchase - I am always happy to discuss my pieces.
